PREMIUM: Symposium #8 | Oakeshott's Conservatism

Michael Oakeshott was an eccentric and insightful conservative philosopher. We begin by discussing epistemic rationalism, as well as its similarities and potential differences from what Oakeshott calls ‘rationalism in politics’. Then, we proceed to discuss the dispositions that Oakeshott associated with the politically rationalist and the conservative mindset, respectively. We end the symposium with our views on the proper relation between tradition, reason and progress.
