For many, the anti-Israel demonstrations in London have been a stark wake-up call. To say that criminal behaviour has been excused by the police would be, to put it mildly, lenient. The police appear to have given in to the mob, as evidenced by the statement made by a police officer to a military veteran that "there's way more of them than there are of us." The police threatened to arrest individuals who flew English flags on spurious grounds of racism, allowed activists to scale monuments, and even justified a call for a holy war — sorry, a jolly little jihad — on the streets of London. This was never clearer than when footage of Met officers removing posters featuring missing Jewish children abducted by Hamas emerged. The cause? To "avoid any further increase in community tension."
