It’s been said that the governance structure of Russia is ‘fractal Putinism’. This means that any Russian organisation you work for is likely to have an administration made up of authoritarian apparatchiks who speak with a forked tongue and an occasional smirk. They pretend that Russia is an open society with a social contract, a rule of law, and the same kind of legitimacy one finds in Western democracies, even as collective bargaining is prohibited, voting is a pantomime, and dissenting voices are fired or jailed, all behind a veneer of due process.
