Sedition Zones

For seventy-two days during the Spring of 1871, in Paris, a deranged gang of socialists and anarchists attempted to usurp the authority of the state, failed terribly, and got themselves massacred. Anyone who looks at the events with an ounce of objectivity would conclude that this experiment in violently opposing the rule of law was an abject failure. However, in line with their general perversion of reality and lack of reason, leftists ever since have considered it a beautiful and illustrious occurrence that should be commemorated and memorialised.

The Paris commune of 1871 was, of course, born of a special and particular set of circumstances - as are most communes/autonomous zones. In this instance, Napoleon the third had lost the battle of Sedan, surrendered France to Bismarck’s armies, and seen Prussian divisions entirely surround Paris. No surprise, then, that this incredible political situation led to some extreme and bizarre outcomes.

A motley crew of Parisian civilians decided that they would not allow the cannon of Montmartre to be removed by the army, killed their own Generals, and tried to establish their own sovereignty. With a lack of a figurehead, or even a workable leadership, they were a laughable opponent for the battle hardened Prussian military machine.

The legitimate French government, such as it was, made terms with Bismarck’s General staff; a stipulation of which was that the remaining French forces would retake the capital from these communist and anarchist insurrectionists. Over a bloody week in May this was duly done, thousands rounded up, thousands killed.

Far from being embarrassed by this obviously doomed, infantile attempt to rework the rules of society, leftists ever since have looked back fondly at it. In their warped worldview it was a dent in the bumper of capitalist statism, a crack in their enemy’s windscreen. Embarrassingly shameless.

To jump ahead nearly an hundred years, across the pond to the Unites States, in the very late 1960’s a public park at Berkeley University was occupied - in the words of Ronald Reagan - by “communist sympathisers, protesters and sex deviants” who cared nothing for property rights or decency. Reagan, as governor of California, sent in a couple of thousand National Guard to break up their seditious little party. Bravo!

So it was more than a little surprising to me to see that the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) was allowed to exist as long as it was. In the case of CHAZ, however, the circumstances were different again. This time it was obviously an attempt to goad Trump into an aggressive move of some type, in order that the forces of sedition could proclaim ‘Orange Man Bad’. Trump, for all his mis-steps in office, was clear-headed enough not to take the bait. A truly remarkable level of restraint, in my opinion.

As we all know, CHAZ descended into bloody chaos all too soon, but it hasn’t stopped other sedition zones from cropping up. There have been various Portland autonomous zones, one in Washington D.C. and who can forget the George Floyd effort in Minneapolis. This dreadful trend looks set to stay with us into the foreseeable future.

I am calling these abominations ‘sedition zones’ as that is exactly what they are. Little pockets of rebellion, dirty little hives of agitation and insurrection, disgusting islands of assorted malcontents bent on defying The Constitution and thumbing their nose at the property rights of the existing inhabitants and business owners of the unfortunate localities they’ve chosen to despoil.

Perhaps the most striking difference between these 2020 era sedition zones, and those of previous generations, is that they appear to be populated by people with a wide range of motivations. We see Bernie bros, black separatists, champagne socialists, radical feminists, anti-capitalists and the dregs of society of every stripe. Hateful losers all.

Their common cause is a loathing of order, a contempt for law, a bitter resentment that western civilisation itself does not cater to their backward ideologies. Disparate and comically disorganised as they are, they all seem to share the same sentiment; the destruction and dismemberment of The United States. Pure, open sedition.

The weirdo freaks on the left always like to speak as though they aren’t traitors. As though it is actually not possible for them to be traitorous. As though their attempts at insurrection are not precisely that. As though any accusations of sedition leveled against them are pure nonsense spewed forth from the mind of far-right bigots failing to cope with their self evident righteousness. This attitude, first and foremost, needs to be addressed and reduced to ashes as soon as possible. They cannot be allowed to hold this particular piece of ground.

For violent sedition is indeed a heinous crime. Though I admired Trump’s ability to calmly let CHAZ eat itself, I would personally favour Reagan’s approach; thumping skulls and taking names. If you find that a tick has buried itself into your leg, or that a leach is greedily drinking your lifesblood, normally you would not just observe it and wait for it to die. No, you would be entirely justified in destroying it without delay.

So too, then, for modern-era sedition zones. Dismantle them as soon as they appear and with extreme prejudice. Scorched earth style. Zero tolerance. No apologies.
