Like many members of Gen Z, I feel a great ennui from inheriting the cultural nihilism and opportunity ceiling of Blairite neoliberalism. We yearn for what we have been deprived of, scouring through the ash heap of British identity in the hopes to glean a means of returning to a normative family dynamic beyond the emotionally listless landscape of digital dating. Hence, the rise of the Tradwife: a movement that goes beyond memes about summer dresses, copy-paste posts about classical art, and tweeting a broody longing for a little platoon of one’s own. ‘Trad’ is an aspirational lifestyle for many women, an anti-consumerist, local, relational approach popular among a growing constituency of people aggrieved by the excesses of the Sexual Revolution.
