Piers Morgan: Ex-GMB Host ‘Bombarded’ With Job Offers as He Stands by Meghan Markle Criticism
Former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has stood by his contentious comments about Meghan Markle after Sunday’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, stating that he’d been ‘bombarded’ with job offers.
Mr Morgan, who hosted Good Morning Britain from November 2015, stormed out of the show live on air after clashing with weather presenter Alex Beresford over comments he had made in regards to the Duchess of Sussex. Mr Morgan had said he “didn’t believe a word” of the Duchess of Sussex’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, later calling her claims “contemptible” and a “diatribe of bilge”.
Speaking outside of his home this morning, Piers Morgan told Sky News:
“I don't believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she's done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible… If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly-held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it."
Mr Morgan’s comments generated 41,000 complaints to the Office of Communications (OFCOM), with an OFCOM investigation prompting talks between Morgan and ITV. After Morgan refused to apologise for his comments on Monday it was decided that he would leave GMB with immediate effect. Among the complaints to ITV was a complaint from Meghan Markle herself, who wrote to ITV chiefs expressing “concerns about the impact his comments on mental health would have on others”.
However, in the wake of Mr Morgan’s exit from Good Morning Britain and ITV, it has been reported that he has been “bombarded” with job offers. As reported in The Sun, a close source said:
“Overnight he was flooded with offers and suggestions for new deals — some pretty interesting ones, plus a few wild and wacky offers which he had a laugh about.”
