Very recently, the Washington Post publicised a statistic originally produced by the University of Chicago’s General Social Survey. Between the introduction of Tinder in 2012 and 2018, the share of men aged between 18 and 30 reporting no sex in the past year increased by 18 per cent, compared to a modest 3 per cent increase for women. 

To those familiar with the ‘manosphere’, these figures portray an already familiar picture. However, within the left’s publication of the survey’s results is an exciting development. It seems that many of those who have been busy contriving the narrative that incel culture is a direct outgrowth of ‘toxic masculinity’ may finally be coming round to the idea that the incel movement is actually underwritten by a much more disconcerting pathology.
