In February, around the time he published his book “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster”, there was much discussion about how Bill Gates was going to “save the world.” This is somewhat unsurprising, given that Gates has “cultivated a saintly philanthropic image.” Gates was portrayed as the model ‘ethical billionaire’ for his formation of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which is the second-largest charitable organisation in the world after the Danish medical charity Novo Nordisk Foundation.
